Our mission
In 1993 a lady from England died of terminal cancer. We don’t know her full name, but we know that her second name was Johanna. Prior to her death she had seen a television programmer about Children in Romanian Orphanages. She was affected by what she saw. The poor conditions and the state of the children and wanted to do something about it. She left a percentage of her estate in order to build a modern orphanage in Romania. We opened an orphanage called “Casa Ioana” which means “Johanna’s House”. Johanna’s friends and family contributed to support her work; they also came and visited the orphanage.
We believe that her dream came true, but more than that, many children’s dreams also came true. Abused children, children without a family, children who lived on the streets, children orphaned by parents, children not wanted – all came to Casa Ioana. They now all have family, they have food, they have clothes and most importantly they have hope.
With the help of an English charity we continued Johanna’s vision. In the last ten years all kinds of children of various ages with varying needs have found at Casa Ioana what every child in this world should have :LOVE.
People who work with the children have been specially chosen. Along with their skills in working with children a requirement was to have a big heart, to help understand every child’s specific situation and requirements. We are proud of the name that we have, we are proud of the work we do, we are proud of the children that have grown up at Casa Ioana and we are very proud of the children we have now. Children with no hope of tomorrow, children with no joy in life, with no love, no one to understand them, with no one to care for them, now a little hope and trust that we will be always be their family.
Maybe here at Casa Ioana we cannot meet all the children’s needs, we sometimes do not have all the resources we require but we will always give them the love we have.
